The U-17 Boys OPDL Cup final featured the Woodbridge Strikers taking on Richmond Hill in the second match of the day at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

Both sides traded chances early but when Woodbridge’s Kyle Dacheville brought down Richmond Hill’s Trayvon Fuller in the penalty area in the 12th minute it looked like Richmond Hill would take an early lead.

Woodbridge’s keeper Daniel Clarke had other ideas however as he made a spectacular toe save on the ensuing penalty to keep the score locked at 0-0.

Woodbridge would earn their own penalty in the 35th minute when Brennon Delima Gabrielli Pontes was brought down in the box by the Richmond Hill keeper.

Woodbridge’s Lowell Wright would blast the penalty over the bar however and the score remained 0-0 heading into the half.

Clarke would be called on again in the second half as he made a flurry of saves to deny Richmond Hill chances time and again.

Richmond Hill would finally find a way through in the 67th minute when a Stefano D’Ambrogio's shot fooled Clarke and found the back of the net for the game’s first goal and a 1-0 Richmond Hill lead.

Woodbridge would battle to try and tie it but Richmond Hill’s keeper, Ananad Sanchir, kept the clean sheet and Richmond Hill won the Boys U-17 OPDL Cup title.

The OPDL Cup, in its third year, is a single-game knockout format, which is intended to introduce another level of intense competition into OPDL.

The OPDL Cup is designed to help shape and strengthen the players’ response to the kind of environments they will encounter as they progress along the Talented Pathway towards collegiate, professional and national team opportunities.
