Play. Inspire. Unite.

The Ontario Player Development League (OPDL), Ontario Soccer's youth high performance league, will officially enter its eight season this weekend with games kicking-off all across the province.

As if the return of the OPDL was not exciting enough, Ontario Soccer is proud to share that Toronto FC and the Canadian Premier League will become the co-presenting partners of the OPDL. To read more about the TFC & CPL announcement, please click here.

The 2022 OPDL season will mark the next chapter in the province’s top standards-based youth soccer high performance development program.

With a full slate of competition scheduled for the season, the 2022 OPDL calendar culminates with The OPDL Gary Miller Charity Shield in the Fall.

Launched in 2014, the OPDL combines top-level youth competition with strict high performance training standards.

Each age group is divided into East and West Conferences to allow for optimal regional competition, Central Venue opportunities will be held throughout the summer and talent identification will take place across all age groups in 2022 to identify and select players for Provincial Xcel programming in 2023.

“The OPDL Licence Holders have done a tremendous job over the last two years, and we are all excited for a full season of competition in 2022,” said Bryan Rosenfeld, Interim Director of Soccer Operations. “The dedication of these athletes over the past two challenging seasons has been impressive, and we are all excited to see their development continue via the Talented Pathway.”

With more than 190 teams registered across all OPDL divisions for the 2022 season, there will be upwards of 3,500 full-time players competing and developing through the OPDL and Talented Pathway.

Most recently, a number of OPDL players represented Ontario Soccer at the Provincial Xcel Showcase Ontario vs Québec Series presented by Gatorade Canada. Click here for a recap of that event.

The OPDL continues to be a leader in developing players for their next step along the Talented Pathway.
